SAMPALOC: HOME OF THE BULIHAN FESTIVAL

It was one weekend when I allotted a few hours to visit this remote municipality in QUEZON PROVINCE...

It was actually EASTER SUNDAY of 2015 when I was finally given the chance to explore the town of SAMPALOC...

The town of SAMPALOC is located between the municipalities of LUCBAN and MAUBAN...

The name SAMPALOC originated from a large TAMARIND tree that was planted in the town proper...

ENJOY the pictures and the stories behind another JOURNEY... my routine during weekends, holidays and when opportunity permits for me travel to remote areas, purposely to breathe fresh air, to discover wonderful places and to awaken my senses with the GIFT OF NATURE...
The refreshing environs during my unforgettable JOURNEY from LUCBAN to SAMPALOC...

The plants, the trees, and the beautiful flowers along the way...

This is a proof that Filipinos extremely love the game of basketball, makeshift basketball court can be found in every corner even in rural areas utilizing creativity and imagination to build something just to play basketball...

This is a usual scene in rural areas...
JOURNEY by just walking...

Unlimited beauty...overflowing fresh air...
what a wonderful world!

For about 15 minutes travel time from the LUCBAN TOWN PROPER, I reached my precious destination, the town proper of SAMPALOC in Quezon Province...

The town officials and the local folks are already busy preparing for the fifth "BULIHAN FESTIVAL"...

Each Barangay displays their products in a creative booth infront of the municipal hall

The schedule of activities for the annual BULIHAN FESTIVAL...happening on April 25 and 26...this festival is the opportunity for the residence to display the local products especially those made from "BURI"...the festival is also called "MINI PAHIYAS FESTIVAL"...

The municipal hall of SAMPALOC...

The PUBLIC MARKET of SAMPALOC...

The CHURCH in the TOWN proper...

wall paintings and creative structures outside the CHURCH...

The historic TOWER HOUSE of LUCBAN where
VIP visitors of SAMPALOC were used to be entertained

The LOCATOR MAP in the TOWN PROPER...

The GUINTO HANGING BRIDGE...
just a walking distance from the town proper...

The MAAPON RIVER...I just do hope that this "gift of nature" will remain clean and be protected from damage...

Another rare dramatic view that can only be found in some rural areas...
a FATHER riding in a horse together with his DAUGHTER....

SAMPALOC is about 145 kilometers south of MANILA...

As I travel back to the big city, I know that I still have to go back to SAMPALOC and explore more...there are numerous waterfalls that I need to visit and enjoy in this remote PARADISE...

Next time, I will be traveling to SAMPALOC from the town of MAUBAN, a different way...another JOURNEY...
