EID-AL-FITR

Eid-al-Fitr is an important religious holiday celebrated by muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic Holy Month of fasting (sawm). The religious Eid is a single day during which muslims are not permitted to fast. A celebration of the conclusion of the 29 or 30 days of dawn to sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan. Eid-al-Fitr or the "Festival of breaking the fast" is also called "Feast of Breaking the Fast, Sugar Feast, Bayram (Bajram), the Sweet Festival or Hari Raya Puasa.


In the Philippines, Eid-al-Fitr is the end of RAMADAN (wakas ng RAMDAN). By virtue of RA 9177 and Presidential Proclamation No.1083, Eid-al-Fitr is declared non-working holiday. RA 9177 and Presidential Proclamation No. 1083 were put into law on 13 November 2002. Philippines is the christian majority country worldwide to have done so. The first commemoration of Eid-al-Fitr in the Philippines was on 06 December 2002.
