It was in 2013 when I first witness this FESTIVAL in QUEZON PROVINCE
NIYOGYUGAN FESTIVAL is coined from the terms NIYOG (COCONUT) and YUGYUG (TO SHAKE).
NIYOG or COCONUT is called the "TREE OF LIFE" because of the many uses of the COCONUT. I love BUKO JUICE, COCONUT MILK and most especially BUKO PIE. Some houses in rural areas are made of COCO LUMBER.
This FESTIVAL is a rightful honor to this wonderful gift from nature and THANKSGIVING to the creator for providing this source of life to many people in the country especially for QUEZONIANS. QUEZON PROVINCE is the country's leading producer of COCONUT PRODUCTS. Majority of the province is covered with coconut plantations.
It is a weeklong festivity showcasing the products and cultures of QUEZON PROVINCE.
In 2014, it did not happen because the QUEZON PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT prioritized recovery program for the victims of various calamities during that year.
This year, the NIYOGYUGAN FESTIVAL will again unfolds the amazing creativity of QUEZONIANS.
The 2 cities and 39 municipalities are expected to display booths at the PEREZ PARK infront of the QUEZON PROVINCIAL HALL in LUCENA CITY, the capital of Quezon Province. LUCENA CITY is about 128 kilometers south of MANILA. There are buses bound for LUCENA from everywhere in METRO MANILA. The travel time is from 3 to 4 hours depending on what time of the day you will travel. It is advisable to leave manila at dawn for faster trip and to maximize your day at QUEZON PROVINCE if you are planning for just 1 day visit. But if you are planning to stay longer, there are available hotels in Lucena City and other parts of nearby places. The fare for air-conditioned bus from MANILA to LUCENA ranges from 180 pesos (if from ALABANG) to 220 pesos (if from QUEZON CITY).
Aside from the display of BOOTHS at PEREZ PARK, there are many other activities such as the BEAUTY PAGEANT, PARADE, FUN RUN among others. Various QUEZON products are available for sale at the different booths. It is an opportunity to conveniently taste and own products from different parts of Quezon without traveling far to remote areas.
For this year, the scheduled festivities for the NIYOGYUGAN FESTIVAL will happen from August 10 to 19. I will be posting update about the details of the activities after a week.
Upon arrival at the main intersection at DIVERSION ROAD in LUCENA CITY, I spotted this signage. Another foresight to be visited soon, the BORAWAN ISLAND. BORAWAN is coined from the words BORACAY and PALAWAN. The island has features of rock formation of EL NIDO (PALAWAN) and fine white sand of BORACAY. PADRE BURGOS is just about 45 minutes travel time south of LUCENA CITY. It is situated after the town of PAGBILAO.
Various signages for directions at the main intersection at DIVERSION ROAD in LUCENA CITY.
Nice signage for smooth traffic flow.
From the main intersection at DIVERSION ROAD, I boarded a JEEPNEY bound for LUCENA BAYAN (BAYAN means TOWN. It should be city since Lucena is already a city) The signage of the JEEPNEY should read (CAPITOLYO) since the PEREZ PARK is located at the far end of the city proper. If you only boarded with the signage "BAYAN", the trip will only be at the city proper. The fare is only 8 pesos since the distance from the main intersection at DIVERSION ROAD to CAPITOL is about 3 kilometers or about 20 minutes trip or more since it will passing at the busy street of QUEZON AVENUE.
This is the PEREZ PARK infront of the QUEZON PROVINCIAL CAPITOL, still empty but come August this space will be filled with BOOTHS and GUESTS.
I spotted this structure again right at the heart of the PEREZ PARK. If you look closer, the 2 cities and 39 municiplaities of QUEZON PROVINCE are written in the stones with the information about the land areas of each place.
One side of the structure...
another side...
with the QUEZON PROVINCIAL CAPITOL at the background...
the 4th side of the structure to complete the picture...
PEREZ PARK and the view of the QUEZON PROVINCIAL CAPITOL building...
The QUEZON CONVENTION CENTER situated behind the QUEZON PROVINCIAL CAPITOL. The venue of the PBA GAMES, concerts and other big events in the province.
I think I have given you a glimpse of the 5 Ws and 1 H (what, when, where, who, why and how) about the NIYOGYUGAN FESTIVAL.
