The MINOR BASILICA OF ST. MICHAEL DE ARCHANGEL or TAYABAS CHURCH was built in 1585. It was declared as a National Cultural Treasure by the National Historical Institute on July 31, 2001.
The CHURCH is also considered the BIGGEST CATHOLIC CHURCH in the entire Quezon Province.
It is situated at the HEART or CITY PROPER of TAYABAS CITY.
TAYABAS CHURCH is aptly called " SUSI NG TAYABAS" because of its KEY-SHAPED structure.
It is considered as the longest Spanish Colonial Church in the Philippines because of its length of 103 meters.
TAYABAS CHURCH is one of the most beautiful catholic churches in the Philippines.
TAYABAS CITY is surrounded by LUCENA CITY and the municipalities of LUCBAN, SARIAYA, SAMPALOC and MAUBAN.
There are many other wonderful destinations in the city of TAYABAS such as the KAMAYAN SA PALAISDAAN floating bamboo raft restaurants and the AIR SUMMIT Gourmet. KAMAY NI HESUS Shrine in LUCBAN is just about 20 minutes drive from TAYABAS CHURCH.
How to reach TAYABAS CHURCH?
By PRIVATE VEHICLE from Metro Manila:
OPTION 1: Drive along the whole stretch of South Luzon Express (SLEX), exit at CALAMBA, then head towards PAGSANJAN, then to LUCBAN, then to TAYABAS.
*Note: Better Option
OPTION 2: Drive along the whole stretch of SLEX, then exit at STO. TOMAS EXIT, then after reaching STO. TOMAS PUBLIC MARKET, head towards the way to LUCENA CITY passing the the municapality of ALAMINOS (LAGUNA), then SAN PABLO CITY, then the municipalities of TIAONG, CANDELARIA and SARIAYA in QUEZON PROVINCE, then finally TAYABAS CITY.
By PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:
OPTION 1: Ride a BUS bound for LUCENA CITY, then alight at either at the DIVERSION INTERSECTION ROAD, LUCENA CITY or at GRAND CENTRAL TERMINAL in LUCENA CITY. Then take a JEEP going to TAYABAS CITY.
*Note: Better option
OPTION 2: Ride a BUS bound for STA. CRUZ (LAGUNA), then ride a JEEPNEY at STA. CRUZ bound for LUCBAN, then from LUCBAN take an air-conditioned van or jeepney bound for TAYABAS CITY or LUCENA CITY, then alight at the CITY PROPER OF TAYABAS.
