10 Valuable Lessons from the Philippine Air Force Leadership Forum 2015

It was another remarkable page in my JOURNEY in life being one of the participants of the PHILIPPINE AIR FORCE LEADERSHIP EXCELLENCE AND CORE VALUES FORUM.

Congratulations to the AIR EDUCATION AND TRAINING COMMAND, to the AIR FORCE OFFICER SCHOOL, to the OFFICE OF SPECIAL STUDIES and to the PHILIPPINE AIR FORCE as a whole for coming up with this excellent endeavor.

Allow me to share with you some of the valuable points that I gathered from the forum that might provide insights to others in their own journey in life, in leading their people, and in managing the organization:

1. VISION, whether personal or organizational, provides direction, narrow our focus and dare us to achieve the impossible. VISUALIZE your future and that of your organization.

2. Many people come to office or work AWAKE but not ALIVE. The people who are just awake are those who do things for the sake of COMPLIANCE, but the people who are ALIVE are the people who do things with COMMITMENT. Are you AWAKE or are you ALIVE?

3.  TIME IS THE GREAT EQUALIZER. We do all have 24 hours. The key word is FOCUS. Prioritize important things to maximize your time. Manage your time properly.

4. If PURPOSE and PASSION come in SYNERGY, there is COMMITMENT. A scenario that will make the organization successfully accomplish the mission or function, and will significantly achieve more, and attain its VISION.

5. We are born from different generations. UNDERSTANDING each generation is the key for HARMONIOUS RELATIONSHIP and WORKING AS A TEAM IN THE ORGANIZATION. The GENERATION Y are people born from year 1984 onward. They are the people who want to know the reason behind for everything. They are the people who will always ask WHY?

6. COMMUNICATION is one of the basic things that make or break a person or an organization. MISCOMMUNICATION and MISSED COMMUNICATION should be avoided. MISCOMMUNICATION is sending the wrong message while MISSED COMMUNICATION is failing to send the message.

7. LIFE IS JUST LIKE A CUP OF COFFEE. LIFE is the COFFEE while CUP  is the material and temporary things in life. Focus on the quality of COFFEE, not on the cup or container.

8. We all do have STRENGTHS and WEAKNESSES. We should be able to identify them. We should focus and develop our strengths, not on our weaknesses.

9. MOTIVATION is the key for people and organization to attain greater heights. Create a motivating environment. Define your purpose. Provide stability. Establish a community within the workplace. Inject fun. But bear in mind that accomplishment and achievement are the best motivating factors.

10. BE CONSISTENT. Perform in excellent manner ALWAYS! Come up with excellent OUTPUT all the time. CONSISTENCY is the key!

These are just ten of the great ideas that can help us to enrich our life as we continue to travel as an individual, as part of an organization, as a member of a community and as citizen of this country. There are many other lessons embedded in that forum that we should advocate and propagate.

Let us continue to cultivate the seeds that were planted by the PAF Leadership. Let us continue to nurture the lessons learned from history. Let us continue to renew ourselves to be the source of INSPIRATION for others to do more, to live with the noble purpose and to carry the torch of the core values of INTEGRITY, SERVICE ABOVE SELF, TEAMWORK, EXCELLENCE IN EVERYTHING WE DO AND PROFESSIONALISM.

Let us LIVE UP TO THESE IDEALS!

Let us FUEL our hearts and spirits with these values.

Let us feed the ENGINE with PURITY of INTENTIONS.

Let us DRIVE with efficiency and effectiveness to accomplish our MISSION.

Let us SOAR HIGH towards the attainment of our ULTIMATE VISION - AIRMEN with FIRM MORAL FIBER for a  STRONGER PHILIPPINE AIR FORCE!
