POLICY AND PROCEDURE

POLICY and PROCEDURE are two words which have different meanings but are often interchanged.

Based on extensive research, stated below are the differences between POLICY and PROCEDURE.

POLICY defines an OUTCOME

while
PROCEDURE defines the MEANS to the end.

POLICIES set the GUIDELINES
                                    while
PROCEDURES are the PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS.

POLICES guide TOP MANAGEMENT in decision making
                                                 while
PROCEDURES guide EMPLOYEES into action.

POLICIES can be modified by the MANAGEMENT,
                                               while
PROCEDURES remain in force and are to be followed.

POLICIES reflect the MISSION STATEMENT and                                                  OBJECTIVES of a company
                                             while
PROCEDURES are practical applications of those policies.

POLICIES  are made by the TOP BRASS
                                           while
