Fort Santiago: The Walled City

PHILIPPINES has absolutely numerous HISTORICAL PLACES to visit and to enjoy because of our VERY RICH HISTORY...

One of the most important destinations which is just located within METRO MANILA is the FORT SANTIAGO in INTRAMUROS...

On June 12, 2015, I celebrated the 117th PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE DAY at the WALLED CITY. I was able to visit INTRAMUROS several times already before, but it was my first time to visit the place during the celebration of the INDEPENDENCE DAY.

I want to share with you the pictures of my latest WORTHWHILE JOURNEY especially for those who haven't been to FORT SANTIAGO yet...
This is situated at the entrance door...
Generally, there was no change in the place. It unfolds the historical events captured in the preserved structures and signages.
Many foreigners and even local tourists visited during that day.
The current rate of admission fees...
Packaged tour services are also available
Signage to properly guide the visitors

FORT SANTIAGO is within INTRAMUROS compound. It is just a walking distance from the MANILA METROPOLITAN CATHEDRAL.

The place was named after SAINT JAMES THE GREAT (SANTIAGO in SPANISH), the PATRON SAINT of SPAIN.
The spacious road inside the FORT SANTIAGO...
The beautiful landscapes inside the FORT SANTIAGO...

"INTRAMUROS" means WITHIN THE WALLS

It took me about an hour inside the compound of FORT SANTIAGO savoring every structure and every historical place...

The "footprints" of DR, JOSE RIZAL inside FORT SANTIAGO before his firing squad execution at LUNETA..

There are numerous foreign tourists during that particular day. They are accompanied by tour guide.

The RIZAL SHRINE inside FORT SANTIAGO

my simple note for our NATIONAL HERO...

How to go using public transport?

There are many options on how to reach FORT SANTIAGO:

1. Just ride a TAXI anywhere in MTERO MANILA and tell the driver to bring you to INTRAMUROS. This is the most convenient way, however also the most expensive.

2. Ride the LRT line 1 and alight at the CENTRAL TERMINAL, then ride the JEEPNEY bound for INTRAMUROS.

3. There are also JEEPNEYS from some parts of METRO MANILA directly bound for INTRAMUROS.

Just one suggestion to the management of FORT SANTIAGO, "NO SMOKING" signages should be placed from the entrance door and within the compound of FORT SANTIAGO. There are many smokers inside FORT SANTIAGO because of the absence of the "NO SMOKING" signage.
