SEA GAMES 2015 RESULTS: MY TAKE

Based on the latest MEDAL TALLY, the PHILIPPINES is ranked sixth with 29 GOLD, 36 SILVER and 66 BRONZE MEDALS. THAILAND is on top with 95 GOLD, 83 SILVER and 68 BRONZE MEDALS. The host country SINGAPORE is at number 2 with 83 GOLD, 73 SILVER and 102 BRONZE.

PHILIPPINES has ATHLETICS, TAEKWONDO, BOXING and WUSHU as top medal producers.  ATHLETICS with 6 GOLD, 4 SILVER and 3 BRONZE MEDALS; TAEKWONDO with 4 each for GOLD and SILVER and 6 for BRONZE MEDALS; BOXING produced 3, 4 and 3 and WUSHU with 3,3 and 2.

By POPULATION, PHILIPPINES has 102 million while THAILAND has 68 million and SINGAPORE has only 5 million.

If the only basis of comparison are the number of population and medals produced, there is a BIG QUESTION MARK for our country especially the people managing our SPORTS ORGANIZATIONS. By percentage alone, it means that SINGAPORE with only 5 million people produced a total of 258 medals while the PHILIPPINES with 102 million people can only produced 131 medals. Is that fair?????????????????????? Even if we consider that SINGAPORE is the host country, is it really justifiable?

If we compare with the NUMBER 1 and just like the Philippines not the host country which supposedly made the playing fields even. THAILAND sent 766 athletes but they produced 95 GOLD MEDALS or 12% compared to the PHILIPPINES that sent 394 athletes but gained only 29 GOLD MEDALS or a dismal 7%. Is that fair????????

If we compare by number of athletes with the number of population. Philippines sent 394 out of 102 million Filipinos, but THAILAND sent 766  out or 68 million Thais. Is that fair?????????????????

Looking at the big picture by comparing the total number of GOLD MEDALS and the number of ATHLETES participated. PHILIPPINES is represented by a total of 394 athletes in SEA GAMES 2015. The total number of GOLD MEDALS for grabs are 402 with AQUATICS with the highest number at 51 golds, followed by athletics with 46 and shooting with 26. We sent only 24 swimmers, 34 athletes participated for track and field and 14 for TAEKWONDO, but no one for shooting. With the numbers alone, we are not putting the right strategy if we really want to emerge on top of the medal race or at least be competitive enough. Numbers do not lie. Numbers reflect the commitment or lack of it. Are our SPORTS leaders, managers and organizers not properly informed of these significant NUMBERS? We do not need mathematicians for this simple computation. We need people with IMAGINATION, PASSION and COMMITMENT.

What is really our MAIN OBJECTIVE by participating at SEA GAMES? Obviously we lack the commitment to become WINNERS. We were there just to PARTICIPATE not to COMPETE...

Do we lack fund support from the GOVERNMENT and WEALTHY FILIPINOS? We have plenty of BILLIONAIRES. Where are they? or do we lack imagination and passion to become on top even in SPORTS?

BASKETBALL, SOFTBALL and FOOTBALL will not put us on top of the MEDAL TALLY. Out of the 394 athletes sent by the country, almost 20% of them will compose team sports which will only produce maximum of 3 golds and they would absolutely consumed 20% of the budget.

We really need to look at our PRIORITIES and OBJECTIVES.

How about you? What's your take about the SEA GAMES 2015?

LIFE is a GAME. Let's PLAY it well to become a WINNER!!!
